Asimov was correct- anti-intellectualism in USA has always been here, occasionally it crops it' ugly head up when real anti-American, anti-intellectuals gain power.
The dead measles vaccines given in the 60s were found to be ineffective. I had a titer and discovered I wasn't immune. I sent my MAGA sister a text letting her know she should check her status. She sent back an article saying IL cases capped at 10 back in June with none current now. Then told me not to talk to her about politics. 🤷♀️
Good essay, however, FYI, chicken pox isn’t without risks: it is often responsible many years after you have the pox, for Shingles, a very painful blistering of parts of your body that recurs regularly and only recently has its own vaccine. Unfortunately the vaccine can only be administered when you have been clear of shingles for at least 6 months. I know a number of people who have been waiting years.
I suffered through measles the year before the vaccine was introduced. Roald Dahl’s daughter Olivia died of encephalitis from measles at the same age and year.
As a nurse of over 40 years, I’m so disgusted with how our public health system is being mismanaged, to the detriment of all. Ignorance prevails!
