Don’t know which is worse: drunk pH or white-knuckle sober pH. Acidic either way.

Gee, all this seems to make Shrub’s little incursion into Iraq/Afghanistan seem quaint. When it comes down to it, there’s not too much difference between Hegseth and Rumsfeld.

Saralyn Fosnight's avatar

Except Rumsfeld was smart—sneaky but smart. Kegsbreath is an alcohol-addled fool. He’s more concerned with looking good than being good at what he’s doing.

Nigel Southway's avatar

And evil. They share that trait.

Nigel Southway's avatar

Rumsfeld wasn't a dumb frat bro.

Don't you mean "excursion"?

I believe you’ve hit the nail on the head.

I love the sarcastic humor as well- whiteboard at the omelet station… Not that any of this is funny but it’s better to laugh than cry when really, I want to cry.

Karen Williams's avatar

I thought the same thing, I'm crying yet laughing reading this piece...."We’re North Korea with better hair gel."

Frau Katze's avatar

I’m going to remember that line!

Yeah, but I thought of Katie Porter's whiteboard, which was used a very different way. These guys are writing with poop on toilet paper.

So the guy who forgot to shave half his face is more concerned about unflattering photos of himself, than photos of our brave men and women who have to be photographed in a pine box draped with the flag😡 Kegsbreath is not qualified for his position.

I’m a woman, don’t have a Y chromosome which maybe explains everything, but as a person crippled by self doubt, how did Pete Hegseth convince himself to take the offer seriously? Pete knows he’s not qualified, he knows he has a drinking problem, he’s aware his relationships with women are very flawed, yet he’s making over the U.S. military in his image. Hegseth is clearly delusional&he’s taking us with him.

BTW who was Pete feeding the lobster&crab to? +The American people paid?

Kathosima's avatar

Well, the Army often feeds you really well before you deploy. Steak and crab at stuff. We also had occasional steak and grab nights in Baghdad in 2010.

Suki Herr's avatar

$6.9 million dollars on lobster.

$2million Alaskan king crab

$15 million Rib eyes.

I suppose mustard gas will be coming to the battlefield soon? Banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention, yes but Pistol Pete is the new morality of the right wing

gayle gibson's avatar

Why bother with messy mustard gas when you can use a nice, clean nuke? Whatever happened to those bombs that were supposed to kill and the living beings, but leave the infrastructure intact?

Dear John,

Great piece as always.

Thank you for this clarity: "There is no clear strategy; we have no clear objective, there’s no clear exit."

This is the best thing I have ever read on Substack.

Kinda makes things like "The Five Best Speed Metal Albums Of All Time" or "Ten Movies That Prove John Ford Was A better Director Than Alfred Hitchcock" look kinda dumb, eh?

Are all our upper echelon military stupid and or without principle ? Enlisted often have to pass exams to gain rank. Can we do that with officers? The constitution, Geneva conventions, uniform military code of conduct etc etc.

Goddammit. Sorry, man, but…

He definitely doesn’t know what words mean. I mean, this is the numbnuts who referred to the “fog of war” re: Venezuelan boat strikes because there was literal foggy weather conditions. 🤦‍♂️

Thank you for highlighting Putin's benefit to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and sanctions lifted by the Puppet of Derangement. I would love to have you do a deeper dive into Dude-Bro Christianity. Actually anointing the felon for a holy purpose. WT heavenly F.

Frau Katze's avatar

Putin is also passing intelligence to Iran. Witkoff claims he asked them about it and they said they aren’t. Of course Witkoff is so stupid he believes them.
